In the Bag: Selling in the Salon
Published in Audio Cassette by Milady Publishing Co. (July, 1996)
Authors: Carol Phillips, Carol Phliips, and Milady
Average review score:

In The Bag: Selling in the Salon
This is a great book which gives invaluable, practical advice on increasing salon revenues.

The book concentrates on increasing revenue through retail sales looking at salon design, layout, product, staffing, sales tips, objections, follow up etc.

Carol Phillips really understands customer service, and makes you think about the whole client experience. At every stage she makes suggestions to improve your customer service to build customer loyalty and repeat sales. There is also advice on staff issues, marketing and other management issues.

The book has been carefully structured and the chapter overviews and summaries are useful. It is also well indexed. I now call it the salon bible. Read it.

In the Blood: The 1992 Morse Poetry Prize
Published in Paperback by Northeastern University Press (November, 1992)
Author: Carl Phillips
Average review score:

A stunning debut
I have read and admired poems by Carl Phillips for years but had never read one of his collections. With his third book about to be released from Graywolf, I decided to go back and read his first and second. To understand my impulse, one must realize that I consider one of Phillips' poems, "As from a Quiver of Arrows," (which originally appeared in THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY and was lately reprinted in THE BEST AMERICAN POETRY 1996) to be among the very best poems I have seen published in a magazine in the past decade. Despite my high expectations of the poet, this collection, his first, is absolutely amazing. Unlike many first books that hold the voices of many masters in its poems-the poet trying on "different skins"-Carl Phillips' collection holds a distinctive new voice. There is no W.H. Auden, no Elizabeth Bishop, no Wallace Stevens or W.C. Williams. There is Carl Phillips, his exacting poems that never miss a step. There is a security here, a poet confident in his abilities, the skill of one who has been doing this for years. Phillips' poems seem more like poems written by our contemporary masters than by a young poet! The obsessions I associate with his work are there: the body, a love of detail, the physical world that at any moment can be transformed, the mind fleeting from place to place with an awe-inspiring agility. Along with the book EMPTY SLEEVES by Sidney Wade, I count this collection as one of the best first book published in the last 10 years. No reader of poetry should miss this book. IN THE BLOOD was selected by Rachel Hadas as the winner of the 1992 Samuel French Morse Prize and published by Northeastern University Press. Carl Phillips is also the author of CORTÉGE and the soon to be released FROM THE DEVOTIONS, both from Graywolf Press.// C. Dale Young, Associate Editor of NEW ENGLAND REVIEW

Indian Silver Jewelry of the Southwest, 1868-1930
Published in Hardcover by Smithmark Publishing (April, 1983)
Author: Lawrence Phillip Frank
Average review score:

essential for building a graphic knowledge of Indian design.
This book depicts the best from collections of early Native American Pueblo silverwork. The photographs allow the reader to identify key characteristic features of traditional Native American jewelry. The informative verbal descriptions do not insult the reader nor the makers. There are few books that portray the early Southwest jewelry as well as this one.

Introducing Philosophy : The Challenge of Scepticism
Published in Paperback by Blackwell Publishers (June, 1996)
Author: D.Z. Phillips
Average review score:

Excellent book.
This book is like being in a highly engaging philosophical conversation with someone. And its got "motion"...that is, you just dont slow down and get stuck in somekind of a lull. It moves ! Its also very challenging at times. So you can be sure you'll be doing some major thinking at times. The chapter on God is a masterpiece...really...even if you dont plan on reading the book or much of it, read the chapter on God.

Also, another thing that I like about the book is that it isnt a cut-and-paste job with respect to philosophers of old. Rather, Dr.Phillips puts it the concepts in his own language, and that too in a conversational way.

Its good to know what a contemporary philosophers thoughts are on a subject, instead of just read a cut-n-paste section of Spinoza, Husserl, etc... This also brings in an emotional quality to the reading, sortoffa a "what is it all about ?" kind of a feeling...difficult to describe.

Anyways, go read it. I strongly recommend it. I hope Dr.Phillips will write more books for the lay public.

Intuitive Techniques for Getting Thru to Your Soul
Published in Audio Cassette by Holistic Communications (24 February, 2001)
Authors: Jane Mountrose and Phillip Mountrose
Average review score:

5 stars never high enough for a Mountrose experience
Comprised of a clear, concise manual and 6 audiotapes, Intuitive Techniques will quite simply rock your socks. The book and cassettes provide the most powerful tool to date for achieving sovereignty on the path to higher conconsciousness. I began using the kit a few weeks ago and have experienced remarkable results(actually, not so remarkable as I have never been disappointed using a Mountrose technique). The techniques and guidelines are clear and easy to follow, and the guided meditations so vivid that it is easy to remain in a high state of consciousness while stopping the tape and journalling - which has often been difficult for me. Journalling is especially valuable, as the information simply floods in. Furthermore, the changes in personal consciousness and energy configuration are so swift and dramatic, that it becomes difficult to remember the experience a day later - because the old you who underwent the experience simply isn't there anymore. Also, past work often provides valuable clues for future sessions. And if the information seems bizarre and unrelated, don't give up: believe me, it will all connect. If you reach an impasse, I would strongly suggest booking a session with either Mountrose, as their ability to guide a client through the maze of consciousness is truly unparalleled. Their compassion and integrity will allow you to easily deal with life's more horrid moments. They don't judge or dictate; they simply accompany you to the place where you can begin to see for yourself what can be done, and they give you the tools with which to do it. Intuitive Techniques is truly a Godsend. Thank you again, Jane and Phillip.

ISO 9001:2000 Internal Audits Made Easy
Published in Paperback by Quality Techniques (13 August, 2002)
Author: Ann W. Phillips
Average review score:

Audits ARE easier AND more valuable
Great book! It made me look at audits in a totally different way. We used to do audits just to meet the requirements of ISO 9001. But now we are actually calculating return on investment on some of our findings!
